For the first time since 2002, Western Washington University will not be going to the NCAA Division II National Rowing Championships. The Vikings learned of that decision Monday, May 18, during a selection show shown on ncaa.org.
That decision snapped a streak of 13 national appearances for WWU, beginning with the inaugural event.
The Vikings had placed among the top three every year, winning seven consecutive national titles from 2005 to 2011. They were second in 2002, 2003 and 2012; and third in 2004, 2013 and 2014.
In all, WWU’s national streak was 14 years as it had gone to a combined national event in 2001.
