Two Viking freshmen are event winners at Saint Martin’s Invitational
Two Western Washington University freshmen, Rudy Mataya in the men’s high jump (21-9 1/2) and Anna Paradee in the women’s pole vault (11-7), were event winners at the Saint Martin’s University Track and Field Invitational meet on Saturday, May 2, at the SMU campus track.
Placing second for a small contingent of Vikings making the trip were Elizabeth Knope in the women’s hammer (159-3), and Tysen Campbell in the men’s pole vault (14-7 1/4).
Finishing third for WWU in the men’s 1,500 meters (4:01.93) was Nick Mounier.
All the marks and time, except for Paradee’s, were season bests. Knope’s mark was a personal best by over seven feet.
The meet was the last qualifier prior to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on May 8-9 at Monmouth, Ore.
