WWU softball No. 2 seed at GNAC Tournament
Riding a six-game winning streak, Western Washington University is the second seed at the third annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Championships which take place on Thursday thru Saturday, April 30-May 2, in Yakima.
An automatic berth in the NCAA Division II West Regionals will be up for grabs.
Western Oregon, which is the No. 4 seed, is the defending conference champion. Joining the Wolves and WWU in the double-elimination tournament will be regular-season champion and top-seed Saint Martin’s and third-seed Montana State Billings. The Saints bring a 40-16 record and an eight-game winning streak to Yakima.
The Vikings, 28-16 overall, face 26-21 MSUB at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Alicia Fine was named Newcomer of the Year and pitcher Makinlee Sellevold received Freshman of the Year recognition on the 2015 GNAC All-Star Team announced Monday, April 27.
Fine and Sellevold were both unanimous first-team picks, and outfielder Alexie Levin was a first-team choice for the third straight year.
Outfielder Autumn Isaacson earned second-team recognition for the second time, and second-baseman Kali Patterson received honorable mention.
Sellevold has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 19-25, and Isaacson received Player of the Week recognition.
Sellevold won four games to finish the regular season with a GNAC-best 23 victories. She allowed just two runs in 19 innings.
