WWU leads by 11 after first day at GNAC Championships

With three players among the top five in medalist play, Western Washington University enters the final round of the 5th Annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Tuesday, Apr. 21, holding an 11-shot lead in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

The Vikings, who are shooting for their fifth straight title, shot 311 on Monday, Apr. 20, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course (5,914 yards).

Montana State Billings is second at 322 with Northwest Nazarene third (326), Simon Fraser fourth (328) and Saint Martin’s fifth (342).

WWU’s Jenn Paul, who entered the tourney with a conference-leading 76.2 scoring average, and teammate Kristen Hansen, last year’s GNAC Player of the Year, are tied for second. They each shot 5-over par 76.

The Vikings’ Anna Bourland, the defending GNAC medalist, shot 78 and is tied for fourth.

WWU’s Brooke Branigan is tied for 10th (81) and Audrey Orem is 18th (86).
