Former Lynden softball standout earns top GNAC newcomer honor
Former Lynden High standout Brooke Bonsen has been selected the co-Great Northwest Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year.
Bonsen, who just wrapped up her junior season at Northwest Nazarene University, led the Crusaders in wins with her 9-12 record and posted a team-best 3.56 ERA. She pitched 129 2/3 in 29 games and recorded 64 strikeouts. Simon Fraser’s Tori Belton shared the top newcomer honor with her.
Bonsen also was a second-team All-GNAC selection.
Former Sehome standout Austin Wilkerson was a first-team All-GNAC selection. Wilkerson, a senior catcher at Central Washington University, hit .395 (73 for 185) with 18 doubles, 10 homers and 55 RBI in helping the Wildcats become the first GNAC school to advance to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals.
