Report: Michigan Missed Warning Signs Before Sherrone Moore's Firing

Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football team are back in the headlines for a concerning reason.

Moore was fired by the University of Michigan on Dec. 10, 2025 for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member named Paige Shiver. It was later reported that he showed up to Shiver's house and allegedly "came at her with knives." He was ultimately arrested for third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

"All of a sudden I hear footsteps and they're getting closer and louder, and I'm like, ‘Crap', so I run to my door to try and lock it," Shiver said. "He barges is and is standing this close to me and says, ‘You ruined my life. Why would you do this to me?' I started backing up and he starts following me. … He's 6-4 and he comes in with his hood up, looking down at me saying I ruined his life, crying, and it's like, and he starts coming at me, and I tell him to leave and he's not supposed to be here, he's not listening to me, then he starts grabbing butter knives."

Shiver told ABC News that her relationship with Moore began in 2022. Although this story shocked people last winter, it sounds like there was trouble brewing behind the scenes.

According to Rachel Bachman and Corinne Ramey of The Wall Street Journal, Michigan's athletic advisor told Moore not to travel with Shiver a year before he was fired.

"The incident spurred Michigan to ask law firm Jenner & Block to investigate the culture inside an athletic department that had been embroiled in a string of scandals," the report from The Wall Street Journal states. "The firm concluded that the school's response was insufficient and that it wasn't clear who was handling allegations of wrongdoing."

What's the latest on Sherrone Moore?

Despite the concerning allegation surrounding Moore, he was sentenced to 18 months' probation and fined just over $1,000. District Court Judge Cedric Simpson was apparently moved by the endless support Moore received from his wife, Kelli.

"The person who is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the person who you betrayed," Simpson said, via ESPN. "When all of the circumstances are happening to her, and she is absorbing them in real time, she not once loses her focus, not once bats an eye to doubt you, not once wants something terrible to happen to you. As I listened to the terror in her voice that day, I don't think there would be anybody in the world who would have blamed her from saying, ‘I am done here.' I am amazed by you, Ms. Moore. I don't know where it comes from. If we had more people like you in the world, I may be out of a job, but the world would be a better place."

It doesn't sound like Moore will be coaching college football anytime soon.
