Darryn Peterson Earns High Praise From NBA Scout

Darryn Peterson was selected by the Utah Jazz with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

And after just a few Summer League appearances, one anonymous NBA scout is already making some bold predictions for the highly-touted prospect.

A Western Conference team scout told ESPN NBA insider Dave McMenamin that Peterson, as well as Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards, could “set the standard” for elite NBA guard play for years to come.

“Peterson has the most polished offensive perimeter package of any guard over the last 10 draft seasons,” the scout said. “He and Anthony Edwards have a chance to set the NBA standard by which guards are judged.”

Peterson averaged 26.5 points per game on an efficient 52.8% shooting from the field and 43.8% shooting from behind the 3-point arc through his first two Summer League games in Salt Lake City. His Las Vegas debut was a bit more rocky as he scored 24 points on 6/18 shooting from the field and 2/7 from behind the 3-point arc, while also committing eight turnovers and nine fouls.

That being said, Peterson is enjoying himself as a ball-dominant, volume scorer for the Jazz’s Summer League roster.

“I’m back having fun,” Peterson said, via ESPN. “I wasn’t really experiencing it that much at Kansas. I was off [the ball] a ton. So just, I feel like myself again.”
