Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie White Announces Kelsey Mitchell News on Tuesday
Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever have been on a heater as of late. Indiana has won four of its last five games, with Mitchell serving as the spearhead. The 5-foot-8 guard has led Indiana in scoring in its last six games, and her streak of scoring 25-plus points in each game is the third-longest streak in WNBA history.
The Princeton High School graduate has been sensational during the last week of games, averaging a league-high 28.0 points per game and leading the Fever to a 3-1 record. During Indiana's 109-75 victory over A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, the four-time All-Star broke Tamika Catchings' franchise record for consecutive double-digit scoring games with 38.
For her efforts during the week, the WNBA announced Tuesday that Mitchell had won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award for Week 8. This is the first time Mitchell has won the award in 2026 and the fifth time in her career. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft joins guard Caitlin Clark (Week 5) as a Fever player to win the award this year.
Indiana went to the social media platform X to post a video of coach White delivering the news to the team during practice. White announced to the team that Mitchell had won Player of the Week. The team can be heard celebrating and cheering in the video.
Now Mitchell joins Catchings as the only players in franchise history to win the award more than five times, although Mitchell has a lot of work to do to catch Catchings' 22. Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers won the Western Conference award.
"We got an announcement to make," White said. "Kelsey Mitchell, Player of the Week."
