Dolphins urged to swing trade for Panthers WR Xavier Legette

The Miami Dolphins arguably have the worst wide receiver room in the NFL heading into the 2026 season.

Because of that, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton believes they should swing a trade to add a playmaking receiver.

He believes the Dolphins should consider trading for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette.

"Based on overall career production, the Dolphins have the worst wide receiver corps," Moton wrote. "If they want to see quarterback Malik Willis make strides as a first-time, full-time starter, the club should look to bolster its pass-catching group. Miami could inquire about Legette, who may need a change of scenery.

"Through two seasons, Legette has caught 84 passes for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 contests. As a former first-round pick, he's underwhelmed, but a new opportunity to be the No. 1 wideout in Miami could lead to increased production."

Legette, 25, was selected 32nd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. At the time, he was considered Carolina's future No. 1 receiver. However, his targets and production declined last season after the Panthers drafted Tetairoa McMillan, who won the 2025 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

After recording 49 catches for 497 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie, Legette finished last season with 35 catches for 363 yards and three touchdowns on 64 targets.

Legette also saw his playing time decrease after Jalen Coker returned from injury. Now, with the Panthers' crowded receiver room following the free-agent signing of John Metchie III and the drafting of Chris Brazzell II, the pressure is on Legette to have the best season of his career.

Carolina must decide whether to exercise Legette's fifth-year option by next May, so a trade to the Dolphins could make sense for both sides.

Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert, and Tutu Atwell are expected to be the Dolphins' top receivers entering training camp. Between the three of them, they have just 268 career receptions.

Legette has only 84 career catches, but he would give Willis a big-bodied receiver he can rely on in third-down situations. With so much attention expected to be focused on De'Von Achane, adding a player like Legette would be a low-risk, high-reward move for Miami.
