In the Round of 16, Spain defeated Portugal 1-0 with an 88th-minute winner by Merino. In the quarterfinals, Spain defeated Belgium 2-1, and their second goal arrived in the 91st minute with a goal from Merino.

What We Know About Mikel Merino's Personal Life

Mikel Merino is 30 years old and was born in Pamplona, Spain. Merino's parents are Ángel Merino and Maite. Merino's father is a former professional footballer and manager who played nearly 300 La Liga matches.

Ángel Merino played for Spanish teams like Osasuna, Celta Vigo and Leganés. Many fans were curious about Mikel Merino's goal celebration when scoring for Spain.

In the 2024 EURO quarterfinal match against Germany, Merino scored a header and celebrated by running around the corner flag in a circle at the Stuttgart Stadium.

Merino is copying the iconic celebration his dad performed when scoring at the same Stuttgart Stadium in 1991, while playing for Osasuna against Stuttgart in a UEFA Cup match against VfB Stuttgart.
