Michael Olise Ethnicity: Why Does He Play for France Despite Being England-born?

Michael Olise has been one of the best players at the World Cup so far, leading the tournament in assists and helping France reach the semifinals.

The Bayern Munich star is now regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world soccer, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing him in the future.

Olise was born in England and came through the youth systems of several clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City. He made his senior debut for Reading before joining Crystal Palace and later signing for Bayern Munich in 2024.

Why Did Michael Olise Choose France Over England?

Michael Olise chose to represent France over England because it was his childhood dream, and he felt a stronger personal connection to the French national team.

Although he was born in London and was eligible to represent five different countries, Olise said playing for France "felt more natural" to him.

Olise spoke about his decision in an interview, explaining that he grew up idolizing French soccer legends.

"The players I followed when I was young were French: Zidane, Thierry Henry, Ribery," he said.

"And I always came to France when I was young. It felt more natural."

Former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira also revealed that Olise had always been set on representing France.

"There was no question of England or anything else," said Vieira.

"He told me he had always been a supporter of the French national team."

Vieira also claimed that Olise believed France gave him a better chance of winning the World Cup.

"And he also explained to me that he had a better chance of becoming a world champion with Les Bleus than with England." said Vieira.
