Analysis:
Short of winning the Super Bowl, the Patriots likely won't top their 2025 season, in which they went 14-3, won the AFC East, and made it to Super Bowl LX, where they came up short against the Seattle Seahawks.
And they'll have the distraction of head coach Mike Vrabel's cheating scandal with former The Athletic NFL insider Dianna Russini.
But from a roster standpoint, New England is in better shape than it was a year ago.
The Pats added bolstered their wide receiver corps with former Packers wideout Romeo Doubs, they beefed up their offensive line with first-round tackle Caleb Lomu and former Jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, and they upgraded their pass-rush with second-round defensive end Gabe Jacas and free agent Dre'Mont Jones.
And New England is expected to add Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in a post-June 1 trade that's been in the works for weeks.
Reports out of Pats camp is that quarterback Drake Maye looks even more impressive than he did last season, and with the addition of Doubs and the anticipated addition of Brown, Maye could have another MVP-caliber season in 2026.
The Buffalo Bills are always a threat as long as Josh Allen is their QB, so winning another division title isn't automatically a given. However, another 14-win season is certainly doable with the talent New England has.
Getting back to the Super Bowl will be a challenge, but the Patriots have the roster to do it if Vrabel's personal life doesn't derail the team early on.
