Tennis Fans Calling For Stefanos Tsitsipas To Retire At 27
The rise and fall of Stefanos Tsitsipas is becoming incredibly tough to watch.
There was a time in the early 2020s that Tsitsipas was considered a major contender at every Grand Slam tournament. Those days appear to be over. Tsitsipas has failed to make it past the second round in each of the last eight Grand Slam tournaments. That's incredibly disappointing for someone who reached the final at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Tsitsipas' struggles continued this Thursday with a loss to Matteo Arnaldi in the second round of the French Open. He clearly lost steam as the match went on, which is why Arnaldi pulled away with a 7-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
While some tennis fans are hoping Tsitsipas can rediscover his top-10 form, others believe it's time for him to retire.
"He should stop playing in Grand Slams for now," one fan suggested.
"It's time for him to retire," a second fan wrote on X.
"It's unfortunate but his tennis career is over," a third fan commented.
"I really thought Tsitsipas would be the next big thing," another fan said. "What a fall!"
Where does Tsitsipas go from here?
Tsitsipas is currently No. 80 in the live ATP rankings. If we go back to 2021, he was the third-best player on tour.
It seemed like Tsitsipas regained his confidence at the Madrid Open, defeating Alexander Bublik, Patrick Kypson and Daniel Merida. However, he suffered early exits in Rome and Geneva. His loss on Thursday at Roland Garros confirms he's still not out of his slump.
Unfortunately for Tsitsipas, his history on grass courts isn't very good. It's hard to imagine he'll make a surprise run at Wimbledon.
That being said, Tsitsipas' best bet might be making a run during the hard court season.
