Dodgers Reveal Severity of Teoscar Hernández Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without one of their top hitters for quite a while.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed Friday that outfielder Teoscar Hernández was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The Dodgers do not have a timetable for his return.

Hernández exited the Dodgers' game against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday after grounding out in his only plate appearance of the game during the second inning.

The injury to Hernández is a brutal blow for Los Angeles, as the outfielder was beginning to heat up at the plate after struggling for most of May. Over his last eight games, Hernández was 10-for-28 (.321) at the plate with two home runs and eight RBI.

In 51 games this season, Hernández is slashing .276/.348/.436 with seven home runs, 31 RBI and an OPS of .784.

This injury for the Dodgers also comes a day after they lost utility man Enrique Hernandez to the IL with a left oblique tear. Hernandez was just two games into his season as he began the year on the shelf recovering from left elbow surgery, which plagued him for much of last year.

With Los Angeles down two key batters in their lineup, the Dodgers have since called up Ryan Ward and Alex Call, who are expected to share time in left field with Hernández gone for the foreseeable future.

Despite the injuries, the Dodgers still maintain a 4.5 lead in the NL West as they welcome the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies this weekend to Chavez Ravine.
