Seahawks sign first-round draft pick Jadarian Price
The Seahawks on Friday signed first-round draft choice Jadarian Price, a running back from Notre Dame taken 32nd overall in the NFL draft last month, the team announced.
That means the Seahawks have all eight of their 2026 draft choices under contract.
Price gets a fully guaranteed four-year deal worth $16.783 million, including an $8.818 million signing bonus.
It means a lot just because, and I'm sure everyone has said it, but it's always been a dream of mine since I was a kid to play in the NFL," Price was quoted as saying by the team's website, Seahawks.com after signing the contract. "Now that I'm actually here, it's my reality. It's reality now and I feel amazing."
Terms of rookie contracts are set via a formula in the league's collective bargaining agreement. But players can negotiate the order of payments and offset language, meaning how much of the contract a player gets if he is cut and signs with another team, or so-called double-dipping.
Price has been participating in OTAs (organized team activities) and during a workout Tuesday open to the media appeared to be splitting time with the first and second offenses with George Holani. Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh remain sidelined as they are still recovering from knee surgeries.
Price had one of the highlight plays of that workout when he caught a long pass down the sideline on a throw from Drew Lock, a play appearing to validate the team's contention that Price can be a big part of the passing game this season despite being used sparingly in that role at Notre Dame. He had just 15 receptions for 162 yards in three seasons with the Irish.
In comments on the team's website, Price said he's growing increasingly comfortable on the field and in the locker room.
"It's been great being able to watch and learn how Super Bowl champions do it, how veterans do it in their day-to-day process, but also the willingness from the veterans to give tips to the rookies on how they do things," said Price, who was drafted to help replace departed free agent Kenneth Walker III, who was the MVP of the Seahawks' 29-13 Super Bowl victory over New England.
"Guys like Zach Charbonnet and George Holani, those guys in my room, specifically have been tremendous to me. It's been a great journey. We have been working every day and I couldn't expect anything less."
Getting Price under contract leaves the Seahawks with just over $27 million in cap space, according to OvertheCap.com, giving them plenty of room to make a move or two either before or during the season.
Some of that cap space - and more importantly the team's remaining cash budget - might go to sign cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a contract extension, which appears to be the last significant order of business for the Seahawks to complete this offseason.
Witherspoon is under contract through 2027 after the team picked up a fifth-year option on his rookie contract earlier this season.
It has been widely expected that the Seahawks will sign him to an extension before the 2026 season, as they did earlier this year with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was also a first-round choice in 2023 and had his fifth-year option picked up.
A recent ESPN report stated the Seahawks made an offer to Witherspoon earlier this offseason, but "the two sides do not yet appear to be close to an agreement.
Witherspoon has been taking part in the team's voluntary offseason program with the expectation remaining that a deal will eventually get done before the regular season.
Fowler's deal
It was revealed this week that the contract for veteran rush end Dante Fowler will count for $2.5 million against the salary cap in 2026.
Fowler signed a one-year deal on May 11 and the deal was initially reported as being worth up to $5 million.
But that total includes $2.5 million in incentives.
Via OvertheCap.com, Fowler is getting a base salary of $1.32 million along with a $500,000 signing bonus and $680,000 in per-game roster bonuses.
