Kamilla Cardoso Injury Update: Chicago Sky Announce Final Status of Star Center
Kamilla Cardoso remains one of the Chicago Sky's best players this season. She's averaging 13.0 points on 51.6% shooting, along with a team-high 9.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
With the Sky missing players such as Rickea Jackson, Courtney Vandersloot, DiJonai Carrington and Gabriela Jaquez due to injuries, Cardoso's presence and production have become even more crucial for Chicago.
The 25-year-old center and veteran guard Skylar Diggins have been anchoring the Chicago offense amid the slew of health issues the team is dealing with.
However, ahead of the Sky's matchup with the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, Cardoso suddenly landed on the injury report after initially not being listed on it, raising concerns about her availability.
Is Kamilla Cardoso Playing Today in Sky vs. Lynx?
Up until 10:45 a.m. ET, the only players on the Sky's injury report were Jackson, Vandersloot, Carrington and Jaquez, who have all been ruled out for the Lynx game. At 11:00 a.m. ET, though, Chicago added Cardoso to the report with an undisclosed illness.
The Sky listed Cardoso as "questionable," which suggested that there was a good chance she could sit out the Lynx showdown.
Fortunately, an hour before tipoff, the Sky upgraded Cardoso's status to "available."
Sky Coach Tyler Marsh Speaks Out on Injury Woes
After a 3-1 start to the 2026 WNBA season, the Sky have lost three straight games and fallen to 3-4 on the season.
Injuries have been the biggest issue for the Sky. Jackson, who was leading the team in scoring with 18.0 points, suffered a season-ending ACL tear during a May 17 game against the Lynx.
The Sky have yet to win since Jackson's injury, with the team clearly struggling to replace her production and impact.
Head coach Tyler Marsh, however, has not lost confidence in his team and emphasized that they will keep fighting regardless of the setbacks they face.
"It's part of the job, it's part of the gig. You accept it," Marsh said on Friday, per Chicago State of Mind Sports. "Every team is going to go through some level of it. We're taking our hits right now in bulk, but we got enough to suit up. We're going to go out there, we're going to play hard, we're going to compete."
