Seattle Reign head out on road before FIFA Men's World Cup break
The Reign are back on the road to play the Washington Spirit.
Here's a look at Saturday's match:
Reign (4-4-2) at Washington (5-2-3)
Time/place: 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
TV: Ion
Radio: 950 KJR AM
Series history: The Reign lead the all-time series 14-13-8 since 2013.
Make it a double
The Reign snapped a five-match winless streak with a 2-1 win against Boston last week. They haven't won back-to-back matches since March and to turn the season around, the Reign must snap their current four-game losing streak against Washington.
The Spirit won 1-0 at Lumen Field earlier this month. Reign coach Laura Harvey said multiple Washington players told her they were stunned they won given how well they were defended.
Close with a bang
Washington announced they sold out Saturday's match (19,215). This weekend's lineup is the NWSL's last until July because of the FIFA Men's World Cup, which will take place in seven of the league's 16 markets, including Seattle (six matches). The Reign will return to play with a road game July 4 at North Carolina.
Quotable
"Anytime you go through a stint where things aren't going your way, it's really difficult to stay positive and to take positive things out of those games," Reign co-captain Sofia Huerta said of her team's recent winless skid (0-3-2). "The Reign's superpower is the culture, and we stayed positive through it all, even at times when you wanted to get negative. We just didn't allow that. We know as a team that if we just control what we can control, keep working on the little things, and stay disciplined, we can get results in this league."
