Victor Wembanyama Achieves Historic NBA Feat Shared Only With LeBron James

Victor Wembanyama put forth a masterful performance in the San Antonio Spurs‘ Game 3 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.

Wembanyama recorded 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, shooting 13/18 from the field, 3/5 from behind the 3-point arc and 10/12 from the free-throw line as the Spurs claimed a 2-1 series lead with a 115-108 final score.

With this incredible stat line, Wembanyama joined Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players in NBA postseason history to record at least 35 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in a single playoff game.

Wembanyama also joined an even more exclusive list, becoming the first and only other player since LeBron James to record at least 35 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and two made three pointers in a postseason contest.

James accomplished the feat in Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory over the Golden State Warriors with 41 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocks. Kyrie Irving famously scored 41 points in the same game as the dynamic duo combined for 82 points.

Wembanyama and the Spurs have unfinished business as they head into Game 4 with a 2-1 lead.

“I think we haven’t done anything yet,” Wembanyama said after the game, via ESPN. “I think we showed some strength during this game, some relentlessness that we’ve got to prove. We’ve still got to prove to ourselves that we can sustain that. Sometimes it feels like being in a more hostile environment, a harder environment, forces us to step up our game and be on our criteria even more.”
