Browns Could Target Brendan Sorsby to Compete With Shedeur Sanders
The Cleveland Browns already have four quarterbacks on their roster - Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and Taylen Green - but how about a fifth?
There wasn't a signal-caller worthy of using a first- or second-round pick on in the 2026 NFL draft, but perhaps the Browns could invest a high draft pick in Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby if he enters the supplemental draft.
According to ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi, if Sorsby, whose college football career is probably over after admitting to betting on his own team while at Indiana, does enter the supplemental draft, the Browns are contemplating drafting him.
"The Browns are among the teams putting in work on Sorsby, per a source," Grossi reported.
While the Browns have Sanders and Watson set to compete for the starting job next year, that should've preclude them from taking a chance on Sorsby - especially if they don't have to use a first-round pick on him.
Most scouts have Sorsby with a first-round grade next season, so if Cleveland can land him in the supplemental draft and only have to spend a second- or third-round pick to land him, it's a risk the team should take.
The Ringer's Todd McShay agrees. McShay made the case for Cleveland going all-in on Sorsby if he hits the supplemental draft, though he's more inclined to part with a first-rounder.
"If I'm the, I don't know, the Browns - if we have the quarterback coach, and we have the contract the right way, we have the psychologists putting a stamp on it…if we can get aligned, I think this guy's worth it," McShay stated.
"And if that's the case, I get to draft him, and I'm doing it with a first-round pick. And I'm doing that because I think he's got a chance to be special."
