Ignited by an eight-run top of the sixth inning, the T-Birds completed a three-game sweep of the Wolves with an 18-5, six-inning victory on the road on Wednesday night.
It snapped a two-game losing streak for Tumwater (11-8, 8-6 EvCo) and it's the third-highest scoring output the lineup produced this spring. The first seven hitters reached in the sixth and the offense was sparked by two-run singles from Eva Hickman and Ava Kivela.
Three runs came home in the first for the Thunderbirds and four more scored in the second. Sarah Stevens ripped a two-run double in the first and Chloe Johnson plated a pair on a base hit. Johnson finished with three hits and four total RBIs while Megan Barrett, Brielle Womach, Riley Smith and Chloe Foos all notched two hits.
Black Hills (2-15, 2-12) cut into its 10-2 deficit with a three-spot in the bottom of the fifth. Hannah O'Shurak and Taryn Kelly recorded run-scoring singles. Maddie Knight led the offense with three hits, but the Wolves couldn't take advantage of six walks and three wild pitches.
Both sides close the regular season on Friday. Tumwater, already locked into the No. 3 seed for districts, will take on Shelton. Black Hills has a date with Centralia, where a win will give them the No. 4 seed in next week's tournament.
