Wittenberg double leads Post 7 to tournament win
Jordan Wittenberg hit a clutch two-run double in the seventh inning to lead the American Legion Post 7 baseball club to a 4-2 win over the Seattle Stars during pool play of the Brandy Pugh Tournament on Friday, July 10, in Bellevue.
David Stealy pitched the whole game, earning the win. He didn’t have his best stuff, coach Steve Slesk said, but the Squalicum product scattered eight hits and only walked two.
Post 7 tied the game at 2-all in the top of the third, and the score remained tied until Wittenberg’s big hit.
“We got a single for Kyle Sandstrom,” Slesk explained of Post 7’s late rally in a phone interview, “and then Wittenberg hit a double to score two runs, which was key for us.”
Kyler Brudwick logged three of Post 7’s nine hits, and Sandstrom added two more.
Post 7 is 1-1 in the tournament and is set to play Boys of Summer next at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
