Kelly’s 9 saves not enough for Blaine in 2-1 loss to Anacortes

Tessa Kelly’s nine saves weren’t enough to hold off Anacortes High School as visiting Blaine lost a Northwest Conference game 2-1 on Monday, Sept. 19.

Six of the nine shots came from Gabby Ronngren, who assisted on the first goal by Ellison Kephart in the 35th minute. The Seahawks’ other goal was on a penalty kick by Nicole McInerney in the 58th minute.

Blaine got on the board in the 67th minute when Sky Nolasco scored off an assist by Brooke Giffen. But the Borderites couldn’t get the equalizer.

Coach Kelly Tuski said her team has been working on putting together a full game.

“We weren’t able to put together a full 80 (minutes) today,” Tuski said. “They just eased up a little bit, but if we had maintained the pace, the outcome might have been different.”
