Concerned voter

The 2016 presidential election has shed some light on some petrifying things, not only about the candidates, but also about the state of the U.S.

The scariest part about this election to me is Donald Trump. Not because he wants to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border or kick out all of the immigrants or even punish women who choose to get abortions. I believe the most terrifying thing about Donald Trump is that he is more representative of the average American than any other candidate. Trump’s supporters applaud him for being so relatable. They praise his ability to speak his mind so candidly and tell things like they “really” are. The fact that Donald Trump can actively spew what I find to be physical threats, racist, bigoted, misogynistic, and xenophobic remarks and his approval ratings still rise, says a lot more about the U.S. than it does about Trump.

This is by no means an endorsement for any presidential candidate. This is merely an observation about where the U.S. is headed and, quite frankly, it doesn’t look good.

But, perhaps, we get what we deserve.
