Registration bill

Your coverage of the improved voter registration bills defeat highlights the serious problem our country has with a lack of voter participation. When the electorate stays home, zealotry drives legislation. I believe all the opposition to expanding citizen involvement was Republican, gerrymandered districts and voter nullification are the backbone of their play-book.

That is how, despite garnering less than 20 percent of the eligible vote, I believe the GOP is able to extort acceptance of their mediocre expectations. That fringe vision extends all the way down the political food chain to the 42nd District. Rep. VanWerven’s no vote justification, that a bill encouraging democratic participation could be too much and move too “fast,” sounds more like job preservation than competent analysis.
