Concerned about redevelopment noise
I cannot seem to find any articles about the noise created by the GP site cleanup. For years now it sometimes goes on 24 hours around the clock — banging, scraping, loading, crushing, vehicle noise, and constant back-up beepers. I don’t live directly across from the site — my home is near the Cliff House restaurant, however I can hear it clearly at night when I’m trying to sleep. I can’t imagine how noisy it is for those who live closer to downtown. The city has noise ordinances that I’m well aware of but the GP cleanup seems to be getting a free pass on generating significant construction noise at all hours. It was even worse when they were building the Shell Oil Recovery vessel down there for a few years — again, construction noise all night into the early morning hours. I think some investigation, explanation, rationale on why this is allowed would be something many Bellingham residents would like to hear about.
