Believes Trump has gone too far

It appears Donald Trump may finally have gone too far with his demand to track all Muslims in the country, surveil their mosques and prohibit any from entering — even returning citizens (adios, U.N.!). “We have no choice,” he explains.

The Donald’s classification of all Muslims as potential terrorists dovetails too neatly for comfort with ISIS’s own recruitment narrative, even for many of his own supporters. Once again the hazards of ad-libbing policy statements, talk-show style, surface to trip up a careless improviser. The New York Times fed his every public utterance over five months — a total of 95,000 words — through computer analysis, and the emerging pattern was predictably unpretty. Next up: that trail-breaking Egyptologist, Dr. Ben Wise? Although he and his fellow-candidates accuse the President of being too soft to lead the “war on radical Islam” they demand, not one of them has so much as called for a ban on the sale of semi-assault weapons to suspects on the terrorist watch list (in fact, every Republican Senator voted to block just such proposal by the Democrats). Do they — and their allies — really believe that every terrorist is entitled to his own tommy gun?
