Wants drivers to slow deer
Electric Street near Lake Whatcom between Lakeway Drive and Alabama Street is a death trap for our deer population. Every week more deer die, hit by a driver unaware that the only way for a deer to get from Whatcom Falls Park to the water in Lake Whatcom is across Electric Street. With a speed limit of 35mph, few dim street lamps and no warning of a deer crossing on Electric Street the new driver to the area does not expect a deer or group of deer in the middle of the road, with no time to stop; death, injury and damage is inevitable. Local residents have learned to go slow at night, watching for the unpredictable deer walking along the side of the road moving from one park to the other; it is a dangerous situation for all. The speed limit must be lowered, bright lights installed and a warning is needed for new drivers to the area that deer use Electric Street to get to Lake Whatcom, the residents of our community will be very grateful for any action or suggestion on how to solve this problem.
