Says GMO food stigma misplaced

Concerning your article “What’s for dinner? Genetically engineered salmon OK’d by FDA”, based on the comments on the article alone, it seems that people are having a negative reaction to this announcement. It’s rather odd considering that the only difference is literally the fact that these fish grow faster and are sterile.

At a time when there is a large push for limiting human toll on the environment, people are rejecting something that would help limit the amount of wild commercial fishing, and would reproduce faster, allowing demand to be better met.

I believe this stigma surrounding GMOs is entirely misplaced, especially when people have been consuming them for years and no ill effects have been documented. GMO crops have allowed farmers to produce healthier and more nutritious crops without having to use chemical pesticides, which have been known to cause negative health effects. These genetically modified salmon are the next step in helping to more food which is better than what is found in the wild, and we should pursue it, rather than being limited by false based stigmas such as this.
