Concerned about refugee reaction
Across the country, mostly Republican governors have moved quickly to condemn Syrian refugees and express concern about their vetting without taking one minute to actually learn what that process is.
Refugees undergo years of background checks and vetting through a complex process that is proven reliable. While espousing all sorts of lofty principles, our present batch of xenophobic politicians and so-called leaders, as well as religious leaders, are showing themselves willing to take all manner of knee-jerk nonsense as fact and pass it on to inflame the electorate. Hence we now not only have a deep trough of low-information voters willing to believe anything that plays to their bigotry, but that septic system of reason has bubbled to the top and is now polluting Republican leadership. Think and investigate before you speak might be a good rule, but it is not as fun as gasbaggery.
