Concerned about Bellingham spending

According to news reports, our nation is nearly $20 trillion in debt!

According to the mayor’s report, “the city’s expenses are growing faster than our revenue, and”... ”the city is still recovering from the economic downturn.”

The city of Bellingham budget states that we are paying over $5 million in debt retirement each year, and yet we continue to spend above our means. However, our leaders like to tell us that they are “investing!” It is one thing when you invest/spend your own money, and quite another when you reach back into my pocket a little deeper every time you want to double down, which is more of a gambling term that politicians are often heard to use.

According to newspaper reports we just threw $20 million at making Bellingham the “the most bicycle friendly city in the state!” I would still like to know who thought that that was a high priority goal. Now the paper tells us that we are not done and that the city wants to spend another $1.5 million “at least” to make Holly Street bicycle friendly and then God only knows how much more for State Street. Just once I would like to hear someone suggest that Bellingham propose some outlandish, preposterous and absurd idea, like maybe try to become known as the most fiscally responsible city in the state of Washington!

One more thought, at my house we do not get to raise taxes every time we want some new toy.
