Concerned about disaster preparedness
“Meridian Students Know The Drill” had a nice picture of students under a table during the “Great Shakeout” drill. A word of warning from one who experienced the 2001 Nisqually quake. I had stepped away from my desk and was, thankfully, too far away from my desk to be able to crawl under it when the quake hit; so I stood under a door frame. From there I observed my keyboard shake loose and swing under the desk like a pendulum. Had I been there I would have been hit.
Note the computers and keyboards on the table under which the girls in the picture are. If a real shakeout occurred the keyboards and possibly the computers could slide off the table and swing like a pendulum from their cords; and hit those girls under the table. I hope the disaster preparedness team gives some consideration about how to avoid this possibility.
