Suspicious of mayoral campaign contributions
I am supporting Cathy Watson to be the next mayor of Ferndale.
Cathy has pledged to spend no more than $5,000 and to fully fund her own campaign. Her opponent, on the other hand, has accepted nearly $12,000 in donations from various individuals and organizations. Don’t be fooled by his fancy signs and placards, I believe he is attempting to buy this election.
Generally, I do not have a problem with a candidate raising money for their campaign. However, the size of some of the donations leaves me suspect. What has been promised? What do the donors expect in return? I am most concerned by a single large donation from the Lummi Indian Business Council. Exactly what does the Lummi council expect in return from Mr. Mutchler? How can a mayor who has received a substantial amount of money from Lummi continue to negotiate with the tribe and still keep the complete interests of the city first and foremost?
As a Ferndale Council Member, I’ve watched Cathy in action and am impressed with her intelligence, her honesty, her work ethic and her knowledge. Please join the four current council members who have endorsed Cathy and elect Cathy Watson mayor of Ferndale.
