Says gun restrictions won’t stop criminals

I believe the opinion cartoon titled “Let’s Dance” was as insulting and offensive as any I have ever seen. I am not an NRA member, nor do I own drawers full of guns. But to even suggest that the NRA rejoices in crazy people shooting innocent students is beyond all decency to me.

I believe those who would confiscate our legally owned guns would ensure that only criminals would possess fire arms. We would loose our ability to defend ourselves. The Second Amendment is in the Constitution so that we are able to protect ourselves and our families from harm. Law abiding citizens are not the problem. Guns are not the problem. Criminals are the problem, and societally we do not deal with them harshly enough.

We have made our schools “gun free” zones. I believe that turns them into unprotected killing fields for those who would wantonly murder. Politicians claim that we need more gun legislation when no law can ever be written that will stop what happens all too often in these gun free zones. Until we eliminate gun free zones, and put armed guards in vulnerable places we will continue to see our children die.

I believe it is well past time to stop blaming the gun and focus on the criminal behind the gun. You who think the problem will go away when all guns are banned, remember this; when you are unarmed and under attack, when seconds count, help is only minutes away.
