Unhappy with coal, Cherry Point terminal

As pointed out in The Bellingham Herald Aug. 9, it is no surprise that business and political leaders from Montana “shrugged off the concerns of environmentalists and praised a terminal proposed for Cherry Point.” The injuries to Whatcom County’s health, environment and quality of life are of no interest to them — nor do they care about the health and environmental impacts on the world at large. Do they really think our community will credit their view that “the footprint will be pretty small, there’ll be a lot of untouched land.” Or that there will be “minimal impact on this area.” It all sounds absurd to me.

I believe corporate mining interests have finally realized that communities throughout Washington have understood their motives and refuse to be victims of selfish profiteers. They are nervous and can be expected to shower us with even more propaganda.
