As cold snap hits, Whatcom County could see a little lowland snow

A cold snap starting this weekend could bring a few snowflakes to the higher hills around Bellingham, along with breezy winds Sunday and unseasonably cold temperatures for most of next week.

Heavy snow is forecast for the North Cascades, with 2 feet or more of snow possible at Mt. Baker Ski Area, according to an online briefing from the National Weather Service in Seattle.

Lowland Whatcom County will see mostly rain next week, but with overnight temperatures in the lower 30s, a mix of rain and snow is possible during the morning commute hours.

Daytime highs likely will remain in the 40s next week.

Cooler-than-normal weather is expected for the next week to 10 days in Western Washington, according to long-range forecasts.
