Another wet and windy storm is heading toward Whatcom County and the rest of Western Washington Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Southeast winds gusting to 25-40 mph or greater are expected in the Bellingham area and coastal Whatcom County, with the strongest winds locally around the San Juan Islands, National Weather Service meteorologist Dev McMillian said in the online forecast for the Seattle area.

“Winds will slowly taper, but remain elevated Wednesday afternoon. Lowland rain will also increase on Wednesday with the frontal passage,” McMillian said.

Snow levels Wednesday into Thursday will be 3,000 to 4,000 feet, and about 2 inches of snow was expected in the Mount Baker wilderness.

“Some uncertainty exists as to the extent of precipitation on Thursday, but continued troughing suggests further unsettled conditions and showers over Western Washington. This would allow for additional light snowfall accumulation over the mountains,” McMillian said.

Whatcom County has received 4.28 inches of rain in October, which averages 3.85 inches.
