Bellingham and lowland Whatcom County will get a brief wintry blast — and likely a snowflake or two — as cold north winds will blow Wednesday and Thursday.

Winds from the Fraser River Valley should increase later Wednesday to 25-35 mph, with gusts at 30-40 mph across the western Whatcom County lowlands, mainly west of Interstate 5, meteorologist Anna Lindeman said.

That’s enough to break tree limbs and cause a few scattered power outages.

“Cooler air will filter in with snow levels briefly lowering to 500 feet late Wednesday,” Lindeman said in the online forecast discussion from the National Weather Service in Seattle.

“While a rain/snow mix early Thursday morning is possible, accumulations and resulting impacts will be minimal,” she said.

More seasonable weather should return by Friday, with daytime highs near 50.
