Temperatures will be trending colder than normal for late November, and that has Seattle weather forecasters talking about a rare event — the possibility of lowland snow for Thanksgiving in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

There’s a 50% or greater chance of below-normal temperatures over the next two weeks, according to a forecast issued Monday from the Climate Prediction Center.

That translates to about a 15% chance of lowland snow for Turkey Day, with storms tracking toward Western Washington, likely temperature ranges and the variability of forecasting over a week out, National Weather Service meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch said.

“There is significant uncertainty after Monday of next week. But if we do have the cold temperatures come to fruition, it’s not out of the realm of possibility,” DeFlitch told The Bellingham Herald.

November snow in the lowlands “doesn’t happen too-too often. Usually it’s snow in January or February that’s our pattern,” he said.
