Storm heading for Whatcom packs a punch

A storm that’s expected to arrive in Whatcom County on Saturday will bring rain to the lowlands and snow in the mountains, along with a burst of strong wind that could cause a few power outages.

Some variables remain because the storm is still several days away, but there’s a 20% to 30% chance of winds gusts around 40 mph, National Weather Service meteorologist Trent Davis told The Bellingham Herald.

“It might be just a little less windy than the previous storm. But something to keep an eye on,” Davis said.

A storm packing heavy rain and wind gusts to 64 mph battered Bellingham and Whatcom County on Friday night, knocking out power to several thousand homes and businesses.

Rain will start Saturday evening, according to the weather service’s online forecast for the Seattle area.

“Once again, it will be windy just ahead and with the front along the coast and in portions of the interior,” the online forecast said.

Rain will taper to showers on Sunday.

Temperatures through the weekend are expected to remain around normal for late November, with highs near 50 and lows in the 40s.
