Tired of the cold and gray? That changes next week, in a big way
Spring warmth could arrive next week, and Bellingham could see its first 70-degree day of the year.
Current forecasts from the National Weather Service in Seattle show that high pressure is building off the West Coast, meaning that Western Washington could be in for an extended stretch of fair skies and seasonably warmer temperatures.
“It’s pretty likely that we’re going to trend warmer,” said meteorologist Kirby Cook.
After a long stretch of cold and gray days — with average highs about 5 degrees below normal — temperatures will start to warm gradually, with highs in the 60s by mid-week and a high of 72 is possible by Friday, April 28.
“It’s starting to look more like spring. All in all, it looks like a pretty good chance that it will be warmer,” Cook told The Bellingham Herald in an interview.
While it might seem that winter weather is lingering longer than normal, Cook said that cooler temperatures aren’t uncommon in early spring.
“There’s a lot of variability in the ‘shoulder seasons,’ especially when you’re looking forward to the 70s more than the 30s,” he said.
