Chance of lowland snow continues in Whatcom County. Here’s the forecast
Several rounds of snow for Bellingham and lowland Whatcom County are not out of the question through the weekend and into next week, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Best chances for snow are early Saturday morning, March 4, and overnight Sunday, March 5 into Monday, March 6, said meteorologist Dev McMillian.
“(But) any lingering lowland winter weather should subside as the morning progress with temps warming. Temperatures will remain several degrees below average for this time of the year,” McMillian said in the online forecast discussion Friday afternoon, March 3.
Otherwise, there’s a chance of rain both Saturday and Sunday.
Daytime highs will be in the low to mid-40s on Saturday and in the mid- to upper 40s for Sunday and Monday. Overnight lows will be in the low- to mid-30s.
Here’s what to expect this weekend, according to the National Weather Service:
▪ Light lowland snow accumulations, especially on grassy or elevated surfaces including bridges, overpasses and secondary roadways. Primary roads may see accumulation in heavier showers.
▪ Freezing temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning and again Sunday night into Monday morning could lead to areas of ice, especially on untreated surfaces.
▪ Most areas will see rain-snow mix tonight through Saturday morning with any accumulations mostly confined to the grassy surfaces. Light snow accumulations will be possible on paved surfaces.
▪ Unseasonably cold temperatures may affect people living outdoors and those without adequate access to heating. Sensitive crops and plants could be damaged.
▪ Coldest temperatures are expected Sunday night into Monday morning.
▪ Expect lingering chances of light precipitation with at least a marginal potential for lowland snow next week, especially during the overnight hours.
