Golden Eagle, Plowtallica, SanderYacht and Jam On on snow duty in this Whatcom city
Golden Eagle, Plowtallica, SanderYacht and Jam On will now plow Ferndale streets when snow falls. The city received more than 2,000 votes in selecting names for the four plows, according to a city news release.
Until now, the plows have only had names like, “Truck No. 25” but were renamed to something more interesting to engage the community in the snow response, said Ferndale communication officer Riley Sweeney in an email with The Bellingham Herald Tuesday, Nov. 29.
“It was a fun way for people to feel connected and provides an opportunity to remind folks to move their vehicles off the street before a snow event,” Sweeney said.
The city is pushing the message to move private vehicles off the side of roads to make them more accessible for snowplows. Currently, the plows are applying salt and sand to the roads to prepare for snowfall, and when that snow comes, they will be on the streets plowing.
“You can also help us by moving your vehicle into your driveway. When cars are parked along the street, some neighborhoods become too narrow for our plows to navigate. Help us help you by moving your vehicle before the snow needs clearing,” Mayor Greg Hansen said in the news release.
