Here’s when freezing temperatures, light snow may arrive in Whatcom County
Freezing temperatures, rain showers and a little snow may hit Whatcom County early next week. Long-range forecasts from the National Weather Service in Seattle show a cool air mass setting up over the Pacific Northwest.
To the north, Environment Canada forecasts freezing temperatures as early as Sunday night, Nov. 27, with a 60% chance of rain showers or snow flurries for Vancouver B.C. The nightly temperature is predicted to remain below freezing, with a chance of snow Tuesday, Nov. 29, and another 60% chance of flurries Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The long-range forecast from the National Weather Service in Seattle expects temperatures around the mid to low 30s Sunday night, and Monday morning, Nov. 28. Snow is forecast to fall at elevations between 300 and 800 feet, alongside Monday morning rain showers.
While the weather is expected to dry out after Monday morning, temperature forecasts are below freezing Monday night and into Tuesday morning due to a low atmospheric pressure area, or trough, moves south from British Columbia along the coast.
“However, ensemble guidance is not exactly in agreement in the track of the trough, with minor fluctuations leading to widely varying outcomes, particularly with any warming temperatures if onshore flow increases,” according to a long-range forecast from the National Weather Service in Seattle. “Despite this uncertainty, guidance continues to highlight this period for the best potential of accumulating lowland snow next week.”
