Whatcom commuters, are you ready for snow? Winter’s not done with us yet

Snow is in the forecast for the Western Washington lowlands, including Bellingham and Whatcom County, as winter shakes its icy fist before a warming trend starts.

Accumulations of an inch or less are expected, with flurries starting late Wednesday, Feb. 23, and continuing into Thursday morning, Feb. 24, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

“Given the nature of the air mass and available moisture, accumulations are expected to be light and the snow will also be the drier and more powdery type,” meteorologist Maddie Kristell said online.

Environment Canada was forecasting overnight flurries for the area around Abbotsford, B.C.

Overnight temperatures will remain in the 20s, but Thursday’s highs will be in the low 40s under sunny skies, the U.S. weather agency said.

Sunny skies and a more seasonable high of 47 degrees is forecast for Friday.
