Big change due for Whatcom weather, but some hazards will remain

Bellingham and Whatcom County residents can expect continued rain, flooding and strong winds that could lead to power outages through Monday, Nov. 15.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Seattle issued warnings and advisories for several weather-related hazards, including high winds, power outages, flooding and landslides.

Coastal Whatcom County can expect west winds of 25-45 mph with gusts to 50 mph through 7 p.m. Monday.

Wind and rain were expected to ease overnight as a three-day atmospheric river battered Whatcom County, dumping as much rain from Saturday to Monday, Nov. 13-15 as normally falls in the entire month of November.

Clear skies were expected Tuesday along with sharply colder temperatures.

But the threat of landslides countywide and flooding on the Nooksack River will remain through Tuesday, Nov. 16, and later.

And it could take several days for floodwaters to recede.
