The National Weather Service is predicting Nooksack River flooding to impact Whatcom County for the next several days, officials said Sunday, Nov. 14.

Residents in Everson, Nooksack, and Sumas should be preparing for high water in and around their area, according to a notice from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management.

These roads are closed, according to the county’s website at 11:30 p.m.

SR-9 and SR-20 are closed due to water over the roads.

Aldrich Road between Smith and Larson roads and between Lange Road and Bellingham city limits.

Emmerson at Massey Road.

Ferndale Road.

Goodwin Road north of Hopewell Road and North of south Pass.

Hannegan, south of Lynden city limits.

Mack Road at Oat Coles Road.

Marine Drive between Rural Avenue and Lummi Shore.

Slater Road between Ferndale Road and Ferndale city limits.

Weather conditions are not expected to improve significantly in the next 24 hours, increasing the likelihood of additional flooding, landslides and road closures, the county said.

Bellingham Public Schools sent a note to parents Sunday night:

“At this time, we believe school will be open tomorrow, Monday, Nov. 15, but we wanted to make staff and families aware that some roads are impassable due to flooding, making it challenging for vehicles, including school buses, to access certain areas.

“County and city crews will be assessing conditions and closing roads through the evening, which again, will impact commutes tomorrow.”

The district said it will alert families impacted by canceled or modified bus schedules and will update its website with information.

All Nooksack Valley schools, including Sumas Elementary, are closed Monday due to possible flooding, according to the district website Sunday night.

All Mount Baker School District schools will also be closed Monday due to flooding in the Acme area and the junior and high schools, according to the district’s website.
