Sick of the rain in Whatcom County? It could get worse by Groundhog Day
If you’re sick of the rain by now, consider this: It could turn to snow by Sunday in the Whatcom County lowlands.
That’s what meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Seattle said Wednesday.
“Confidence in forecast details are low for now,” forecasters wrote in an emailed statement.
But as Western Washington braces for heavy rain and possible flooding through the weekend, meteorologists see temperatures cooling Sunday.
That means a brief flirtation with snow at 1,000 feet or below.
“Rain/snow mix possible in lowland showers through early Monday,” the weather service said. “Accumulations generally below 1 inch expected on grassy and elevated surfaces. A slight chance of a brief period of snow Tuesday morning.”
That means snow on lawns and rooftops, but probably not roadways.
It also means that Sunday — Groundhog Day — will be cloudy, so those marmots up at Mount Baker won’t see their shadow.
