Get ready for another round of high wind, rain and heavy mountain snow

Another storm is poised to hit Whatcom County on Friday, bringing strong winds that could knock out power in the lowlands and bringing blizzard conditions to the mountains.

Forecasters issued a high wind watch for 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday with sustained south winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts to 60 mph.

“Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects,” the National Weather Service said. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”

Rain could be heavy at times on Friday in the lowlands.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are possible Friday in the Mount Baker wilderness, where a winter storm watch was in effect.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible” on the Mount Baker Highway from Maple Falls to the Mt. Baker Ski Area and on Highway 20 from Concrete to Newhalem, the weather service said.
