Update: Northbound I-5 traffic through Bellingham resumes following crash

UPDATE: The affected lane was cleared around 2:40 p.m. according to WSDOT. The original story follows below.

A crash on northbound Interstate 5 near the Meridian exit in Bellingham has blocked the right lane and forced a closure the off-ramp, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation interactive map.

Traffic was backed up over a mile in the northbound lane just after 1 p.m. Friday. The cause of the crash has not been announced.

The crash as first reported around 12:52 p.m. on PulsePoint.

The Bellingham Police Department, medical aid, fire assistance and Washington State Patrol all responded to the scene, according to WSDOT.
