One lane of both northbound and southbound Interstate 5 in Ferndale will close nightly for paving projects starting this weekend.

The paving will close the left lane north and southbound on I-5 between Portal Way (milepost 263) and Grandview Road (milepost 265).

The closure will initially only impact the southbound left lane starting nightly at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 until 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said in a news release.

Construction in the lefthand lane of northbound I-5 will begin a day later — 8 a.m. Monday, Oct 13 at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Northbound work will also occur nightly until the morning of Friday, Oct. 17, according to WSDOT.

Construction crews will repave the roadway and install cable barriers as part of the southbound I-5 Nooksack River to Blaine paving project, according to WSDOT.
